Thread: Sabrent TV Tuner SAA7134/7130

wanted offer little purchased or considering purchasing 1 of $20 sabrent tv-pcirc tv tuners. bought yesterday, tigerdirect, came in black box, board black well, , mention because seems change chipsets on these cards daily. many of cards in price range falls under saa7134 territory, , 1 not kind identify card/tuner assignment happen automatically.

before explain resolution further should mention i'm working kubuntu 9.04 (mint 7 kde), , used tvtime trial , error.

important point mention: searching forums , elsewhere on line you'll find many posts saying "use card# use tuner#." take big grain of salt! said these cards have variety of differences going on model model. set me on right path this:

troubling part of finding right tuner/card combination finding out how try these combinations without restarting/logging out, link above explains:

sudo modprobe -vr saa7134_dvb
sudo modprobe -vr saa7134_alsa
sudo modprobe -vr saa7134

, load card , tuner options set:

sudo modprobe -v saa7134 card=42 tuner=38 "

in case had kill kmix avoid driver in use errors. that's it. being able load, test, unload, repeat key getting right combination me.

threw me loop initial combination used, card=42/tuner=43 show cable tv on composite channel, , no source bluescreen on television channel. combination seemed logical card card=42 sabrent device listed, , 43 ntsc phillips, seemed match specs of card. not much. turns out card=10/tuner=43 worked best particular card, , despite being sabrent card, card=10 referenced kworld/kuroutoshikou saa7130-tvpci.

after finding combination had make options.conf file under /etc/modprobe.d containing:

options saa7134 card=10 tuner=43 alsa=1

can else out. in decent card, nothing spectacular, 20 bucks can't complain. again, whatever generic card may end with, try many combinations of card , tuner before throw in towel.

this wonderful post, procedure unload modules saa7134_alsa , saa_7134? not have kmix installed modprobe -vr commands not work modules in use. maybe asking how identify how modules came in use.
