advice on array

hello. i'm thinking how something, however, still cannot resolve it.
that "something" is:
have boolean array of 8 positions, holds data of 8 switches. need execute function when 1 of switches high , rest low.
how it? hint?

use loop , examin each element in turn. each 1 find high increment counter.
then have if count one.
