Questions about CSH

we've got hgue web-based java application maintained contractors in country, maintenance nightmare , i'd right first time, little contact developers possible..... i'm trying solution developers sort of "1 time fix" each page, , after maintained me or in position.
so i've plugged around on forums looking information on implementing csh , i've got few questions.....
1) how work required developer set link webhelp mapid? i've read posts confused developers don't know how link webhelp -- simple importing api library , calling rh_showhelp correct parameters?
2) "prefix map ids with:" -- for? i've tried prefix something, trying call "rh_showhelp" updated last parameter won't find topic..... information on appreciated
3) possible customize mapids include different prefixed text? "prefix map ids" kind of (if ever work!) -- doesn't allow different prefixes. can open .h file , manually set these?
ideally, ease of developers, i'd function call on pages,
robohelp_csh.rh_showhelp(0, " http://www.server.com/webhelp/index.htm", hh_help_context, %%pagename%%);
the problem here %%pagename%% can include different alpha characters preceding page number -- not mention there's error codes in webhelp project link to, include vast array of different alpha characters.....
if i'm unable use alpha characters in mapid, problem foresee i'll need use numeric mapids , i'll need long list of mapids used, , within application called -- it's bit of maintenance nightmare considering there on 300 pages , 250+ error codes.
any or tips -- or suggestions --- appreciated.

i completly out of ideas looking around webhelp's publish directory when notice file hadn't seen before might me... "index_csh.htm", has basic frameset "cshdat_webhelp.htm"
inside cshdat_webhelp.htm, down on mainline, find interesting comments,
// vh 05/16/00 support
// topicid=
// topicnumber=
// remoteurl=
// , windowsoptions
// format #a=xxx,b=xxx,c=xxx...
ooooooo.... looks need.
so here's example, topicid of "mymapid" topic url of "test.htm"
so, try out link to: http://www.server.com/webhelp/index_csh.htm#topicid=mymapid
, works i'd hoped. displays test.htm "show" link , no framset.
looking through code, find out comment "and windowoptions" means. including "," followed window options load window desired options. what, might ask, window options? well.... i'm not sure options are, 1 find "withnavpane=true". include in link , navigation pane display.....
