Can anyone suggest a good IP webcam?

a little background on project :

i wanting build remote viewing system / house robot home let me see what's going on via web interface  and/or windows application write.  want able move robot around house , interact things.  live in 2 different states , think useful able check things out remotely.  have camera security system in place now, cameras fixed / servoless, , think fun project ( want learn robotics ).  away mounting camera on rolling platform, kinda want build hexapod articulated head, 2 cameras feed me stereoscopic imagery can view on 3d monitor.  i'm software developer i'm not worried programming side.  ambitious fun!

so far i've ordered arduino uno r3 starter kit , wifi shield, plan use controlling robot's servos ( , per zoomkat's recommendation, ssc-32 lynxmotion handle servos ).

anyway... point of post :

i understand ( having read other threads ) arduino uno not practical streaming video, , neither appear wifi or ethernet shields designed uno meant function wireless router on behalf of other devices, webcam.  i'm thinking, beyond moving robot around , toggling flashlight, arduino used power on / off / reset off-the-shelf ip webcam, configured automatically connect local wifi , stream video.  sound work?

i'm looking @ hootoo camera
http://www.hootoo.com/product/network-cameras.html
but man expensive.

i'd find affordable ip webcam, ideally 1 open source c/c++ web cam viewer.  have suggestion?  thanks!

there plenty of cheap , quality wireless web cams remote steering control. few of dotted around house 90% of requirement 0 effort. ones i've used support dynamic dns, motion detection/alerting via several methods , seem ideal you're asking for. know said you're doing fun, might want simple cheap solution working anyway have watch while develop own rover based solution. available low light sensitivity , ir illumination makes them useful monitoring house not occupied.

the standard cameras provide http interface can controlled , viewed via web browser - no special client software needed. 1 of ones use did come client managed bunch of cameras , presented them in grid on screen zooming , recording , on, that's bells , whistles , web browser need.

if want stereo vision can't take pair of steerable cameras - need them mounted on common steerable head. 1 option canibalise steering mechanism standard cam , figure out how attach pair of cameras in place of single standard one. should matter of cutting , gluing. gives web based steering usual controls brightness etc. find camera hosts web site presents live camera feed in same page widgets needed configure , control whole thing user friendly.

you have option of making own steerable camera mount scratch , using rc servos operate - more satisfying huge amount of work. arduino control these without problem, need arduino take place of standard controller , provide web service or ui control it, , if want integrate live video feed need make own mashup it.

for rover, need wifi interface. if you're going put cameras on same rover might consider mounting wifi router on rover , using ethernet connections arduino , cameras - simplifies things considerably , should make rover more reliable - if can cope lugging router box around else.

note if rover going wireless need battery powered - power consumption of rover , pair of wireless cameras considerable either need have way recharge it, or compromise between huge battery or short battery life.

while you're looking stereo display headsets, might consider using pair of cameras further apart eyes give artificial sense of scale. i've never done myself i've read of cool looking projects using approach @ landscapes , cloudscapes.
