Pinstatus over com/serial port

hi guys, first post here, sorry if i'm in wrong place

have arduino micro, want make behave in similar way gpio pins on raspberry pi testing purposes, , make python>arduino interface teaching kid program.

basically, want know is, possible (on request) send state of pins attached computer? possible have computer requests specific pins?

i think answer question yes.

you need write suitable software pc , arduino.

i wrote demo python - arduino program here. i'm not sure if have in mind.

if using arduino teaching might more practical / more helpful , much easier display arduino output in arduino ide serial monitor.
