Thread: Problem with Upgrade Manager

hi,

i'm running ubuntu 8.04. when run upgrade manager following error:

***********

not calculate upgrade

unresolvable problem occurred while calculating upgrade.

can caused by:
* upgrading pre-release version of ubuntu
* running current pre-release version of ubuntu
* unofficial software packages not provided ubuntu

transient problem, please try again later.

***********

it's been week or now, not seem transient. claims want upgrade following packages:

* libnewt0.52
* whiptail
* linux-ubuntu-module-2.6.24-24-generic

says can partial upgrade, , when hit "partial upgrade" complains. have been in partial upgrade mode long time (many months), never bothering try find out package not possible upgrade, never caused me problems (before @ least).

idea going on? logfiles can give me hint of problem?

thanks!

do have unofficial repository in source list?if comment in source list.you typing in applications>accessories>terminal

code:
gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
and find line unofficial repo (like medibuntu or else added) , put # sign in front of line.save , close file.

code:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
