Thread: Need help installing OpenOffice please

hi,
trying install open office onto machine having difficulty.
have been following [a href="http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/instructions.html#linux"]these [/a]instructions , stuck on direction number ;
4. should create directory "ooo_1.1x_linuxintel_install".
("x" in sense suffix version 1.1 depend on version downloaded.)

make sure root
download tarball openoffice.org (the download can done user account , moved), , extract tarball (.tar.gz file) temporary directory.  "/tmp" place example. purpose of example, assume have downloaded tarball /tmp directory.
open terminal, such xterm or konsole.      extract tarball, change /tmp directory: cd /tmp      , extract tarball: "tar -zxvf [tarball name]".
this should create directory "ooo_1.1x_linuxintel_install".      ("x" in sense suffix version 1.1 depend on version downloaded.)
 change directory: cd ooo_1.1x_linuxintel_install.
execute setup script "network" installation.     done following command: "./setup -net"  friendly installation process prompt destination directory , other openoffice installation options. when setup finished, should have complete "network" installation installed in destination directory specified. tips on installing openoffice.org nfs setup can found on our nfs tips page.      note:it not advisable install on existing openoffice installation. if want use same destination existing version of openoffice, delete contents of existing directory!
 part of installation process includes telling openoffice java installation. can automatically found or may need supply it, or install jre supplied openoffice if don't have installed. (but see prerequisites more control on this.)
each user on system should execute user-setup openoffice.org.     so, login regular user, change program directory installed openoffice.org:      cd /opt/openoffice.org1.1.0, example     , execute following command: "./setup" user portion of setup execute. tell setup perform workstation installation (should copy 1.4 mb of files home directory) , typically let default directory recommends storage of local files in user directory.     example: "/home/billg/openoffice.org1.1.0"     follow instructions , fill in contact details.     if users have been running older version of openoffice, should delete current version of .sversionrc before starting newly installed version. reinitialize version information new setup.
that's it! if use gnome or kde (provided distro keeps kde user files in ~/.kde2), find openoffice.org integrated in environment. if use different windowmanager, can start openoffice.org typing ~/openoffice.org1.1.0/soffice
you may remove install files in /tmp, if done installing. (thanks henrik eismark pointing out)
