hi, i have little 4wd robot car driven 4 of pwm pins on uno. each output pin goes through resistor base of npn transistor drives motors. each motor draws 250ma. it works well, don't understand need resistor between pin , transistor base. experimentally seems make no difference if there or not. when there current drawn each pin 290ua , when isn't there current 300ua. i've read important component, can't see purpose if i'm doing saving 10ua. can clarify? thx the base-emitter junction acts diode ground.  if don't put in resistor , set output high shorting 5v ground.  draw current pin , overheat arduino. i'm electronics newbie. i'm totally confused. using google i've tried find out differences between avr architecture & arm architecture. google hasn't been help. know can 32-bit avr or 32-bit arm. i want arduino there many different ones it's hard me choose one. went atmel website & looked around & didn't answer questions. arduino use avr? arduino have 32-bit atmel micro-controllers? arm used in likes of raspberry pi & beaglebone? please explain in layman's terms differences between avr & arm. i'm not sure use comparing cpu architecture going be. line blurred between these devices. i.e arduino due arm board. you'd better off letting know want achieve , people can direct appropriate microcontroller. however in terms of raspberry pi, key difference rpi doesn't have lot of input / output capabilities. has few gpio lines 3.3v , can't drive current. interface rpi realworld hardware, people connect

hi have pitft screen , have been making little gui pygame. can set touch screen button exit button, close down gui terminal (on pitft screen). part works. problem is, if close program using ssh terminal session, using ctrl+c, gui freezes , can't mini screen go it's own terminal. hi all, working on project relies (among other things) on: - setting access point in rasppi bridges ethernet connection macbook (check! done!). - hard-assigning mac address access point. (this having problems). able set whole network, , works fine. able change mac address, using (mainly) ifconfig + ether command. , worked. however, after changing mac address cannot connect such access point anymore device. have tried several different methods, , have failed. trying impossible here? there work around such thing? know. changing mac address using following lines: sudo service ifplugd stop sudo ifconfig wlan1 down ifconfig wlan1 hw ether [mac address] sudo service ifplugd start , ap set bridge between eth0 , wlan1. thank you! luiz. raspberrypi

hi have rpi switching few devices on , off via relay board. has been working happily time powerful device has habit of breaking whichever relay connected to. 12v/5a peltier heat pump supplied 60w power supply (i know isn't ideal, shortly upgrading 120w). relays rated @ ac250v 10a/dc30v 10a (as seen here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5v-8-channel- ... 20fd5151b7 ) should able deal load. electronics noob i'm bit puzzled why happening, surely spike transformer when powering on shouldn't enough burn out relay? since have number of 12v devices being operated relays i'm add common 120w 12v supply don't need separate power supply each. peltier cooler utilising , ditch over-worked 60w supply. rpi powered circuit using switching regulator step down 5v. max theoretical load on new circuit ~90w though it's unlikely devices on simultaneously. i'm hoping since 120w supply permanently on reduce spikes occurring thought post here in case i'm making glaring mist
