Thread: Help! VLC won't play .wmv anymore!
for reason vlc doesn't want play anymore. used work on old ubuntu 9.04 install, reason after did fresh install doesn't want to.
when try play them message:
i error message video try play, .avi either "xvid" or "divx" in place of "wma2" etccode:no suitable decoder module: vlc not support audio or video format "wma2". unfortunately there no way fix this. no suitable decoder module: vlc not support audio or video format "mp4s". unfortunately there no way fix this.
have following codecs installed:
gstreamer codec packs (from add/remove programs)
w64codecs
ubuntu-restricted-extras
vlc-nox
vlc-data
vlc
vlc version: 0.9.9a grishenko
okay hell going on here!
decided best course of action remove vlc ppa , downgrade 1 available in repositories. did this, removing relevent packages... ie gstreamer plugins, w64codecs etc etc etc
synaptic package manager screwed up, has whole heap of files marked "local or obsolete" depend upon things "ubuntu-desktop" , "virtualbox-3.0" if remove them, it'll remove that!! there's 1 there seems depend on every program have installed, , wants remove programs remove it!! lists obsolete!
think might have me adding third party ppa's following:
vlc
virtualbox
openshot movie editor
medibuntu
assume when installed openshot, installed whole heap of dependencies beyond jaunty, , when disabled openshot ppa, said these upgraded packages obsolete?
vlc doesn't play anything, codecs installed, , uninstalling them nightmare. on earth should do!?
