Thread: Disable on-board RAM on iBook G3?

i've got old ibook g3 (900mhz) i'd run flavor of ubuntu on. i've installed ubuntu , xubuntu @ various times, suffered system freezes, etc. re-installed os x , ran memtest, caused kernel panic. pulled 512mb chip, , ran again, same result, guess it's safe ram on motherboard bad.

i've read online, there's no fix on os x side short of motherboard replacement, , computer's not worth expense, @ point. i'm wondering though, ubuntu-newbie, there way once have ubuntu installed can tell ignore ram on motherboard? 512mb alone ought @ least run xubuntu comfortably, yes?
