Thread: How to share email between Ubuntu and Windows Vista?

i'm using windows vista 64-bit , dual-booting ubuntu, i'm determinedly working toward goal of making ubuntu 9.04 (and successors) primary os.

a stumbling block has turned out email program: thunderbird 2.0.0.23. i'd able share accounts, past , future messages, folders under inbox, address book, etc., between vista , ubuntu. searching advice on how this, i've found such urls following:

"sharing profile between windows , linux" (http://kb.mozillazine.org/sharing_a_profile_between_windows_and_linux)

"how share mail between windows , linux" (http://web.archive.org/web/20050207141558/http://texturizer.net/thunderbird/share_mail.html)

"dual boot sharing: firefox 3 bookmarks
thunderbird 2 default directory
sunbird calendar 0.9 default directory
"

the first of these links quite general; second dates february of 2005, , out-of-date; third contains promisingly pertinent section reads follows:

"thunderbird 2

"your windows xp default directory can shared linux.
cd ~/.thunderbird mv xexz3f7v.default xexz3f7v.default_orig
ln -s /media/drive-d/profile.cu/application data/thunderbird/profiles/gmbdpxf5.default xexz3f7v.default

"comments: directory xexz3f7v.default created when thunderbird 2 installed under linux, while directory gmbdpxf5.default created when thunderbird 2 installed under windows xp. these directory names randomly generated."

unfortunately, after tried applying third link's suggestion (and using relevant windows path computer), encountered serious difficulty. attempts open thunderbird yield error message effect copy of thunderbird running , need either close or restart computer. naturally, tried latter option, did not work.

i tried other possibility has occurred me. set 1 of email accounts in thunderbird (for linux), using "local directory" 'local folders" file location @ ubuntu 9.04 sees "local folders" directory of vista installation ("/media/hp" how ubuntu sees windows c: drive):
/media/hp/users/ron/appdata/roaming/thunderbird/profiles/7othhbcl.default/mail/local folders

doing failed yield useful.

at point, i've run out of ideas. hope has succeeded in coping similar situation , has found solution or share me.

thanks in advance help.

note: i've made plea deliberately verbose in hope others may find helps them avoid ideas don't work (at least, not me).

not sure kind of email volume or how you're switching between os's, imap might feasible solution if email server supports it. i'd weary of sharing profile directory between 2 os's this, when 1 windoze.
