Figuring out some numbers for a mini pump

hey all,

i'm getting electronics (i don't know why waited long) , i'm figuring out stuff.  picked arduino kit vilros.com , few other parts project.

this next paragraph fluff, read if you'd like, skip /*skip here*/ actual question
i'm trying work on project humidor keeper.  living in so.california, it's extremely dry here , controlled environment humidor.  purchased few things humidity sensors (as input obviously), humidifier (basically water canister sponge , tubes) tube splitters , twist valves , importantly, small air pump.

/*skip here*/
the small air pump i'm having problems @ moment.  this pump. it's 3v pump.  using supplied 9v battery cable when project ready, understand i'll have use resistors bring voltage down don't burn out pump.  said, i'm new this, i'm trying figure out ohms law find out kind of resistor(s) need.  problem is, don't know amperage.  find this?

i looked @ details pump , looks amps (or milliamps) product number.  can me out?

right now, have equation r=6v / ?i  find current?

this first post too, please let me know if i'm being stupid.

okay, have correct form ohm's law, , have identified need drop 6v across resistor.

the problem have, have correctly identified, unknown current.  not not specified, won't constant either, changing load varies, lubrication ages , things temperature.  1 reason why using resistor match 9v supply 3v pump not wise choice.

the other reason using resistor horribly inefficient, , matters when pump biggest user of d.c. power in system.  dropping 9v 3v 33% efficient, 67% lost power being converted heat, need manage.

a better plan use 9v pump, if can find one, or use switch-mode-regulator provide constant 3v @ wide range of currents.  this, you'll need 3v pump , test bench power supply , multimeter, under variety of load conditions, specify regulator.

does of above help?
