arduino connect sensors

hi guys i'm trying build home " control system " , sensors if door or window opens,a fire sensor,a water sensor, etc.
( not know whether possible,or not! ) , want ask following !
first connectors buy, detect movement in space , whether window opened,for water , fire ?
and , how connect arduino; can it  wirelessly? or through prototype board , respective panels ? want have arduino in room (where silent alarm sound if wrong happens) , there receive sensor data!
also , if want via internet ( installation of same system country home ) have hook ethernet shield , router , right ?

it obvious hardware sensed must connected arduino unless use xbees web or wireless connection can location arduino, depending on hardware choice make.
